It was my daughters Season Renee's birthday today. Fourteen she is (going on 22) so i figured one of her presents should be Dick's Picks 14, along with a listening session with the old man (don't worry she got the togs she wanted too). We sat and listened and I was shocked to realize how well she knew the words to most of the songs. Especially the ones Bobby sang...go figure. I didn't realize she was catching on after all these years. I guess the Dead have been the background music of her life. The one comment that rather amused me was "Why does he want to be a cowboy so bad?" So to all of you young ones out there...enjoy your children and keep your family close...they do grow up way too fast...and play the Dead for them. Happy Birthday Season!

One of my fav moments in life was sing along to Golden Ropad with my 12 and 10 year old grandsons!

They usually listen to WRAP but they dig a good vibe even from the Boys!

My story is this.... A couple of years ago, I was in my car listening to 8/9/95 Ratdog (Bobby's show, the day Jerry passed-on), and my son (then two) asked me "what music was this?"

I told him, "This is Grateful Dead music... Well, actually its a band called Ratdog."

His response, after a pause of about a second, was "Dad... I wanna listen to Grateful Dead."

I relayed this story to the person who introduced me to the Grateful Dead.

"Your son has great taste in music..."

Gotta teach 'em young...

I did teach 'em young. My daughter turns 6 next Friday, and whenever she decides she wants to dance in the house with me, she always asks either for "Jerry music" or "the brothers, you know, the one with the big man that sings like an angel" (referring to Mr. Aaron - she saw them at Monterey Blues Fest two years back and danced the entire time).

I Will Take You Home

Lyrics: Brent Mydland
Music: Brent Mydland

Little girl lost in a forest of dreams
It's a dark old wood, and it's damp with dew
Hoot owl hoots, for a moment it seems
Something big and cold got a hold of you
Just when everything gets scary
Daddy's coming round for his darling again
Hold my hand with your little fingers
Daddy's loving arms gonna gather you in

Ain't no way the Bogeyman can get you
You can close your eyes, the world is gonna let you
Your daddy's here and never will forget you
I will take you home
I will take you home
Gonna carry you back home in my arms
I will take you home

Long is the road we must travel on down
Short are the legs that will struggle behind
I wish I knew for sure just where we're bound
What we will be doing, and what we're gonna find
Wherever we go, there will be birds to cheer you
Flowers to color in the fields around
Wherever we go, I'll be right here near you
You can't get lost when you're always found

Ain't no fog that's thick enough to hide you
Your daddy's gonna be right here beside you
If your fears should start to get inside you
I will take you home
I will take you home
Gonna carry you back home in my arms
I will take you home

Happy Birthday to Season from Cush (Jon)!!! You're Dad is a pretty darn good guy! I know that for a fact, he has been very generous to me of late!

Very cool Mick, thank you for sharing...
